Mitsy’s World, confessions of a drag queen with Kevin and Liza :Guapo Edition: 2017-08

Mitsy’s World, confessions of a drag queen Hola guapo’s, guapa’s and guapetones, Here we are, summertime in Gran Canaria…. Hot, sweaty, sticky, meltdown, these are some of the things I like on a gorgeous body from a guapo, but not on me! Too hot to handle! These temperatures I have experienced this summer on the Island were absolutely outrageous. I can honestly say ‘Calima realness’. Un verano caliente! I am trilled there are 2 more European countries that approved gay marriage. GO GERMANY!! The German parliament finally approved, nonetheless Angela Merkel was not pro. This is anno 2017 gurl, get used to it already! During a debate for a woman magazine a young man asked her why he couldn’t marry his boyfriend. She answered that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, but everyone should have there own opinion about it, so that means that her party members had the choice to vote pro or con gay marriage. Three out of four were pro, so she had to accept it. YASSSS, basic bitches, bow down ? Malta, YASSSS! Europe’s smallest nation voted to allow same-sex couples to marry despite strong opposition from the Catholic Church. A country of deep faith matched by commitment to equality. Recently I had the privilege to do a guest performance for a charity together with 3 talented artists on this rock, namely Liza May, Kevin Byrne and Beau Derek. They welcomed me with open arms and made me feel very welcome. I might have been a little over-excited because during my second song I was so wild that in a blink of a false eyelash, I fell down on my ass hahaha…. The venue was amazing at Atlantic beach club at PDI, right next to the pool with a breathtaking view on the beach. I totally felt like Pamela Anderson, Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren rolled into one. Pure glamouresness. Never trashy, always classy! Naturally for my monthly interview I decided to have a little chitchat with Liza and Kevin. Mitsy: Hola Liza and Kevin, so nice to see you again in my little boudoir in PDI. As mentioned, you are doing a lot for charity. I think it’s wonderful, but what different kind of charities do you do? Liza & Kevin: Hello my dear Mitsy, great to be here in your little boudoir and thank you for having us ? I think it's safe to say we both love to do charity work and don't really say no to anyone who approaches us. It’s so important to give back. We are very lucky to be in a position to do some good. There is an animal charity here on the island called petpals GC . This is very close to all our hearts. It’s also special because it's where we first met you at a recent fundraiser. The way some people treat the animals here is unbelievable. The animals are innocent and deserve all the help they can get. But we also work for the local AIDS charity (ACES) and perform on world aids day (dec.1st) to help raise awareness. It's so hard for charities to raise much needed money and awareness, we will help in any way we can. Mitsy: Well, I can only encourage you and I am very glad I had the chance to be a part of it. Liza… gurrllll. Your legend shows are well known on the Island. I just have to say that I absolutely loved your comic version of “Mein Herr” by Liza Minnelli. You own it! You have a great variety of legendary stars you imitate. Tell me more about your character and the imitations that you do. Who, what, where, when….soak me with imput my dear. Liza: Wow! Coming from you that is a great compliment! I have been a fan of Liza since 1972 and I feel privileged to be able to portray myself as her. It took me a long time to perform “Mein Herr” which is a truly iconic number. There is no way I could do justice if I were to play it as Liza did in cabaret. So I decided to do the number as Liza is today , with hip and knee replacements. It is now one of the highlights of the show.... I also perform as Edith Piaf, Judy Garland, Carmen Miranda, Dusty Springfield, Bette Midler, etc… They are all such revered artists. I do my very best to imitate each artist as closely as possible... I believe the secret to the success of my ladies is to lip sync perfectly. There is nothing worse that a bad lip sync artist. It's one of my pet hates. It's cheating the audience. I believe you have to give 100% no matter if there is one person in the audience or 100. They are there to watch a show and it has to be on point! Mitsy: I agree, a bad lip sync is not a performance to me. A true extravaganza eleganza queen has to bring a perfect lip sync. Kevin, Kevin, Kevin…. Your voice! I’m a fan. I have heard so little of what you do and I’m very curious about your repertoire. Enlighten me with the kind of performance you give to people and how it makes you feel. Kevin: I have been performing off and on for 50 years. I love the music of Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé , Barbara Streisand, etc... In the UK I am known as West End Kev, so you can guess... I love musical theatre! But I also enjoy singing country. A large portion of our audience are German, they love to line dance, or just dance, it never fails to get the audience up and dancing. If they are enjoying it then I am loving it. Last week I ended up with the whole audience on stage with me... I was in the middle singing Country Roads, these times are magical. Some of the ballads I sing are timeless and it does surprise me that the younger generation know these songs and enjoy listening. It's really heartwarming to be able to bring these memories back for them. It's a privilege Mitsy: How did you started? How long are you actually performing? You’re all English ‘lads’ I’m guessing? ? Kevin: well I'm from Nottingham, Liza from Manchester . As mentioned I have been singing for 50 years, Liza for about 4 years. We are very lucky to be able to work together ... we are a married partnership. We do however work alone also, but at the moment our Legends show is proving very popular. I have a show called an Evening With Kevin Byrne. My sets consist of classic ballads, country and romance.... As a child my family holidayed at Butlins Holiday Camp. Every year I entered the talent competition , I loved performing and when I won I loved it even more! I was often asked to sing at weddings, birthdays, etc,... and I performed in local shows. It wasn't until I moved to Gran Canaria with Liza that I started to sing again full time. Liza: My very first performance was at the legendary Westfalia showbar in GC. Beau Derek had asked me to perform a few numbers during one of his shows, as he had seen me dressed as Liza whenever there was a fiesta and thought I could do it. After a lot of courage building I agreed to do it. I am naturally a very shy person so I kept putting it off , but one day I decided tonight is the night! And it was like a light switch being turned on. I loved it. I couldn't believe how much fun it was! Mitsy: I remember my first time… I was on a big stage at a club and suddenly one of my titties fell out. Back in the day they were filled with water and it splashed on the floor between the people. My final question to you… Curious as I am, do you have anything exciting planned for the future? Liza & Kevin: We are often approached by people asking us to perform in their hometowns . We are currently talking to a few venues in Germany with a view to performing there early 2018. We are also planning on performing in the UK on the same trip. Liza has been approached by a night club in New York to perform her one woman show Liza & Friends, whilst I am talking to a few venues in the USA with a view to talking our Legends show there... if this come off it would be wonderful! There is a lot of preparation for us to do before we do go to the states, but hopefully 2018 is the year it will come to fruition. I am currently compiling numbers for my third cd. I want this one to be totally different to my last two.... so watch this space! Mitsy: Sounds very exciting and I wish you both all the luck and success in the future. Muchas gracias for your time and the interview, muuuaaahhh xx That’s it for now, stay tuned for the next edition in September … Glits and glam, wham bam thank you ma’am #mitsyssquote   Bookings & information through fb fanpage: Mitsy Multipass
